The largest single award, $16.5 million, fully funds the construction of the new Niagara Falls passenger station to be located at the site of the historic 1863 Customs House, adjacent to the Whirlpool Bridge over the Niagara River. The entire station project, which is projected to cost a total of $44.5 million, already has commitments of $25.5 million from various sources. The first two phases of the project are now underway and the new award will allow the third phase; the construction of a 7,200 square foot, two-story atrium, which will connect the Customs House to a new 14,800 square foot station building, to get underway. The station building will include modern facilities for customs and immigration processing. With full funding now secured, the entire project is expected to be completed and opened for use in 2013. The other three awarded NYS projects include:
• $10 million for the construction of a new transit plaza at Fordham in the Bronx, which will benefit both city bus and Metro North passengers.
