![]() » New York Receives NEW $7.3 Million in HSR Grant Funds Redirected From Ohio And Wisconsin…On December 9th, US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced that $1.195 billion in ARRA high speed rail grant funds previously awarded to Ohio and Wisconsin were being re-directed to 13 other states which stand committed to advancing high speed rail projects. New York State received up to $7.3 million in new grant funds, which are 100% federal dollars and do not require any state or local match. There was no immediate announcement as to what project(s) will be funded by these new dollars. With these new funds, the total dollars committed from all sources since January 2010 for passenger rail improvement projects across New York State now total over $300 million! Rail advocates in both Ohio and Wisconsin had been working tirelessly since new Republican Governors had been elected, both of whom vowed to cancel all planned high speed rail project work. |
